May 2025

4/1/2025

Dear members,

Spring is finally here and with it a bit of sunshine, which really feels good. Just in time for that, our liquid sun has arrived, in the form of our second Dingle Founding Father's cask with the apt name Fearghal's Liquid Sun. You'll find out why it's called like that and why you absolutely must have a bottle further down in the newsletter.

There are also two events coming up soon. For the first one, we're only acting as a consultant, but we still want you to be informed. License to Grill in the food court of Knauf at Schmëtt is hosting a whisky dinner with whiskies from Diageo on May 16th. One of our whiskies has also made it into the lineup and it all sounds pretty good. Further information is to be found on their homepage www.ltg.lu over the next weeks.

You may also save the date for our own next whiskey dinner: this one is to be held in Manternach at the Kachatelier on June 27th. As usual, there will be a high-quality menu, this time with whiskeys that we will select in part at this year's Limburg Whisky Fair.

Regarding the Whisky Fair: all available places are taken. If you still want to visit the fair, you could plan it as a day trip, just don't forget the driver for the return!

In autumn, our rarities tasting and a return to Bestial in Grass are in the planning, more on these over the coming months.

If you don't want to wait that long and still enjoy a good dram outside, we are happy to introduce you to two new partners of the club. You can now get a selection of our whiskies at the Restaurant l'Ecuelle in Wëlwerdang and at the Bar Cabana in Klierf.

See you soon

For the committee

Your secretary, Philippe
Léif Memberen,

D'Fréjoer ass endlech do a mat him och e bësse Sonn, déi richteg gutt deet. Pünktlech dozou ass awer och eis flësseg Sonn ukomm, dëst a Form vun eisem zweeten Dingle Founding Father's Faass mam passenden Numm Fearghal's Liquid Sun. Firwat deen esou heescht a firwat dir onbedingt eng Fläsch musst hunn, dat gitt dir méi wäit ënnen an der Newsletter gewuer.

Et stinn dann awer och demnächst zwou Manifestatiounen un. Bei der éischter si mir éischter Beroder gewiecht, wëllen iech se awer trotzdem net virenthalen. License to Grill am Foodcourt vum Knauf op der Schmëtt mécht de 16.5. ee Whiskydinner mat Whiskië vun Diageo. Et huet sech awer och ee vun eise Whiskien an de Lineup geschlach an dat Ganzt kléngt zimlech flott. Avis aux amateurs! Weider Informatioune fannt dir op hirer Homepage www.ltg.lu an den nächste Wochen.

Da kënnt dir iech awer och schonn eisen nächste Whiskydinner virmierken: dësen ass de 27. Juni zu Manternach am Kachatelier. Hei wäert et wéi gewinnt en héichkarätege Menu ginn, dëst mat Whiskien, déi mir deelweis ganz geziilt op der Limburg Whisky Fair wäerten eraussichen.

Zu der Whisky Fair: do sinn déi disponibel Plazen all beluecht.

New WCL bottling
Dingle Founding Fathers
"Fearghal's Liquid Sun"

Dingle is our Fernand's great love of whisky, as all those who have been around for some time should be aware. Thanks to his commitment, we became Founding Fathers of Dingle and were able to bottle the wonderful cask called Fearghal's Dream a few years ago, which most of you still remember fondly today. During the process of bottling the cask, Dingle approached us about having received a cask back from the original owner and whether we might be interested in taking it over. We tasted it, thought (briefly) and decided not to let this rare opportunity pass us by.

Now, almost 5 years later, it's finally here. This bourbon-aged Dingle is ready to be bottled after once again developing wonderfully over the past few years. It's an Irish single malt at its best and Jim Mc Evan's oft-used term of Liquid Sun fits here like a glove. Liquid sun, warm, vanilla, delicious. The name is the program, Fearghal being the Gaelic version of Fernand, without whom the Dingle adventure would certainly never have taken place.

Founding Fathers bottles are sought after and are becoming increasingly rare. Since they are all single casks bottled mostly at cask strength, each one has its own character. When I tasted this one in the distillery with the people from Dingle this summer, they were all very enthusiastic. According to them it is rare that after 10 years of maturation the character of the spirit itself would still be so present and it this cask definitely is pure Dingle. As mentioned, it is a pure bourbon cask maturation, bottled at cask strength of 59.9%. We are pricing it at €85 per bottle, which is really only possible, because as a club we can offer such things without an intermediary and without a large margin. The market price of the Founding Fathers is almost double that. To make sure that everyone gets a chance at a bottle, we are initially limiting sales to 2 bottles per member (4 for Family Members).
You can order as always via [email protected].
Dass Dingle eisem Fernand seng grouss Whiskyléift ass, dierft all deenen, déi scho méi laang dobäi sinn, bewosst sinn. Duerch säin Engagement si mir Founding Fathers vun Dingle ginn a konnte virun e puer Joer dat wonnerbart Faass mam Numm Fearghal's Dream offëllen, wat bei iech nach haut beschtens am Gediechtnis ass. Am Prozess, wéi dat Faass ofgefëllt ginn ass, si mir vun Dingle drop ugeschwat ginn, dass si ee Faass vum eigentleche Besëtzer zeréckkritt hätten an ob mir eventuell drun interesséiert wieren, dat ze iwwerhuelen. Mir hu geschmaacht, (kuerz) iwwerluecht an decidéiert, eis déi rar Geleeënheet net duerch d'Lappe goen ze loossen.

Elo, knapps 5 Joer dono, ass et esou wäit. Dëse Bourbon-geräiften Dingle ass prett fir an d'Fläsch nodeems en sech nach eng Kéier wonnerbar di lescht Joren entwéckelt huet. Et ass en iresche Single Malt at its best an dem Jim Mc Evan säin oft genotzten Term vu Liquid Sun passt hei wéi d'Fauscht op d'A. Flësseg Sonn, waarm, vanilleg, lecker. Den Numm ass also Programm, de Fearghal ass jo di gälesch Versioun vum Fernand, ouni deen di Aventure Dingle secher ni stattfonnt hätt.

Founding Fathers Fläsche si gesicht a ginn ëmmer méi rar. Vu dass et alles Eenzelfässer a Faassstäerkt sinn, huet jiddereent säin eegene Charakter. Wéi ech dat hei am Summer an der Distilerie mat de Leit vun Dingle geschmaacht hunn, waren se all hell ewech begeeschtert. Et wier rar, dass no 10 Joer de Charakter vum Spirit u sech nach esou präsent wier an et wier definitiv Dingle pur. Et ass wéi gesot eng reng Bourbonfaassräifung, ofgefëllt a Faassstäerkt vun 59,9%. Mir leie bei 85€ d'Fläsch wat wierklech just méiglech ass, well mer als Club ouni Intermédiaire an ouni grouss Marge esou Saache kënnen ubidden.

15th Anniversary Dinner II

11/26/2022

Our last big event to celebrate our 15th anniversary. We're proud to be working together with one of Luxembourg's finest according to Gault & Millau: The Restaurant Bosque Fevi on Esch-sur-Alzette's Gaalgebierg. In the heart of the green forest we experienced both the spanish influences on haute cuisine and on whisky maturation.

Corona and Brexit didn't make it easy, but 4 amazing drams made their way to our stock over the last months.
The first one is an Australian Single Malt from the Starward distillery. It is fascinating to see what quality in whisky distillers all over the world have achieved over the last years. The Starward is a perfect example of what a great cask (Australian Red Wine) and the warm climate down under can create in only 4 years of maturation.
Second to arrive was an Inchgower from the famous independent bottler that is Gordon & MacPhail. The second fill sherry cask gave it lots of sherry influence without transforming it into a "sherry bomb" that masks all the spirit's natural flavours. This whisky rather quickly sold out and is no longer available.
Number three is an original bottling from Billy Walker's newest project The GlenAllachie. Matured in a Madeira Barrique it has a very pleasant sweetness without giving up on strength and complexity due to its cask strength.
Last but not least we have been gambling. By bottling a whisky that most people just know as THE cheap single malt that you can find at almost every gas station in Luxembourg: Glen Moray. But boy, what a dram. Personally I think that it is the best first fill bourbon matured single malt that I have been drinking in a while. Our members seem to agree as it is selling rather quickly.
All of our bottlings are single casks and once they sell out, there will be no more bottles alike. If you are interested in purchasing them, become a member and contact us via [email protected].

Whisky Dinner @Yves Radelet

Another amazing dinner created by chef Yves Radelet in Drauffelt.  Thanks to the Covid-check regime we were finally allowed to organise one of our famous dinners again. On November 20th, nearly 70 members of our club had the first whisky dinner in two years.
Yves Radelet prepared 5 impressive courses to match our latest bottlings and the surprising Bladnoch 17 that we discovered during a tasting in Saeul. As pictures say more than a thousand words, just have a little look:

Our latest bottling: Dingle Founding Fathers Fearghal's Dream

You might think "OK, another WCL bottle, interesting, let's see how much it is..." STOP and take your time to read the following lines please.

Sometimes things just happen. An independent bottler sending us a sample that we like and decide to bottle. Nice. But then there are stories like this one that I want to share with you. Imagine a man who loves a good dram as much as he loves staying on the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland. At one moment this man discovers that there is going to be a whiskey distillery in Dingle which is, of course, very exciting. Not enough, the distillery is holding a programme called "Founding Fathers" where the first 500 casks are being sold to individuals wanting to support the distillery, considering it is a huge invest that only generates any income 3 years after the first distillation has taken place. Our man, who, as some of you have guessed some lines ago, is no other than our belowed committee member Fernand, takes the idea to the committee who were as pleased as him and decided to purchase one of those 500 casks. Not just any one, but by far the rarest, a port cask. Being a huge invest for the WCL at that time, the club called out to their members to buy cask parts, assuring them one bottle once bottling day has come. 52 auctions were sold allowing the club to go for the purchase.

So not only this one man's dream is coming true, holding in his hands a bottle from his favourite distillery carrying his own name (Fearghal being Irish for Fernand), it also gave us the unique opportunity to accompany this noble spirit from its very beginnings to the moment where we can enjoy it together. In fact the cask has been hand filled by our delegation during their Ireland trip in 2015 and Fernand gave it a visit at least once a year, taking home a little sample allowing us to document its ageing. A first big moment was the 3 year old sample, moment where the spirit had officially become whiskey. But it wasn't really ready at that time so we gave it one more year and then another before we decided together with the master distiller to go for bottling.

I would like to thank Fernand (not to forget his lovely wife Sylvie!) for this experience and I am delighted to say that our Dingle is now available for purchase. We know that there has been quite a hype around Dingle bottlings and we don't want this bottle to appear on ebay for crazy prices before every member even got the opportunity of securing one bottle. That's why we limit our sales to 2 bottles per member in a first time (plus of course the ones you secured by buying cask parts). If you wish to order more, tell us in your mail and we'll keep track of those orders, releasing them after a month's time.

So, what are the specifications? Our Dingle is a Cask Strength Single Malt Irish Whiskey, 5 years old (2015-2020), port cask matured (not finished!) coming at an ABV of 59,6%. As our other bottles, it is a members only offering. Interested? Contact us for further details!
